Hello!

I am so happy to be your child's first grade teacher at

Tualatin Elementary School this year!

First grade is an important year where students learn foundational skills that support reading and math.

Thank you in advance for all the support you will provide during the school year!  A successful year is when children, teachers, and parents work together in partnerships.

I am here to discuss any concerns, questions or thoughts you may have.

I look forward to a wonderful year together!

My Story

I recently moved to Portland to be near my new grandson. I am a California native and I have three children. I studied at California State University and later earned my M.A. in Teaching from University of Southern California. I am a Literacy Specialist and

I also have an English Learner authorization.

I have taught American, British National, Alberta, and IB PYP curricula in California, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Lebanon, Mali, Cambodia, and now, Oregon!

In my free time, you'll find me reading, traveling, exercising, enjoying

nature, and spending time with my family and friends.

I love teaching!

My Philosophy

Each child is unique.  Each child brings knowledge, abilities, a background, and life experiences to help make our classroom a special place.

Parent, school and community partnerships help build a solid foundation for students.

A safe and comfortable classroom is a place where students are nurtured and feel they can take risks and be successful.

Children learn in different ways and construct knowledge by engaging in whole class, small group, paired and individual learning.

Student centered and inquiry based learning experiences and reflection can lead to deep and meaningful learning and a stronger understanding of oneself, the community and the world.

“Tell me and I forget,
teach me and I may remember,
involve me and I learn.”                                                     ~ Benjamin Franklin
